OUR STORY

My passion for Alaskan Malamutes stemmed from my very first bitch, Xena, that my parents gifted to me during my second year of university (April 2012). I grew up with labrador retrievers but Xena opened my eyes to breed differences and different training tools. I had plans to possibly breed her until she developed epilepsy at a young age.

During my Masters program, I met my partner in University, who absolutely loved Xena as she almost ate his breakfast on him and he has stuck with us ever since. At 6 years of age, Xena's epilepsy worsened and she developed Cushing's Disease.

It was a lot of heartbreak between watching her conditions worsen, expensive monthly vet bills, and the upset of losing her at 8 years of age. I made it a mission that if I ever decided to breed, I would take all the right channels to try to optimize the chances of producing healthy purebred Alaskan Malamutes.

I decided to revisit the idea of breeding once my post graduate education wrapped up (MSc Animal Biosciences), where I was referred to Jennifer Remazki (Spiritrun Alaskan Malamutes) by both Canadian and US breeders. Jennifer took me under her wing allowing me to shadow her at dog shows, where I helped with all of the logistics behind the scenes and gained opportunities to hear all about the breed on a larger scale.

I received my first prospect foundation bitch, Raven, from Jennifer in June 2023. We have enjoyed the confirmation ring, bikejoring, sledding, barn hunt, sprinter and even trick dog training. As we learn more about dog events, we look forward to entering alternative disciplines to maintain versatility and meet new people.

OUR MISSION

Here at Sledwarrior Alaskan Malamutes, we aim to raise purebred Alaskan Malamutes with a goal to preserve the breed.
Our focus is to produce healthy, conformationally correct dogs with great temperament that come from many years of careful selection and breeding.

All of our dogs are unconditionally loved, get to go on all the dog adventures, and go through extensive health screening prior to proposed breeding plans.
